I Have Returned!

I’M BACK! I had the most amazingly wonderful and magical time in Rome and I took plenty of pictures so I’ll definitely be sharing them. Can we also talk about the food and how it was marvelous and made my tastebuds so incredibly happy? AHH SO MANY THINGS TO SHARE! I don’t even know where to begin. Let’s start with a picture:

Me and Josh in front of the Colosseum!

Yea so if you couldn’t guess that would be me and Boyfriend (Josh) on I believe our second full day in Rome. It was amazing. If you want to hear me ramble more about the historical/sightseeing aspects of my trip either shoot me an email (dormroombaking [at] gmail.com) or let me know in the comments. However, this is a food blog. Here we talk about all things delicious and damn were there a lot of those in Italy!

For example, that is a picture of me with the most amazing gelato ever. When I say ever I mean ever. Josh and I tried a TON of gelato (we at it at least once a day) and this was by far the best. The texture and flavors were to die for. It’s kind of hard to tell, but I’m holding the largest size. Josh and I decided that it was worth it on our last day and consequently second trip to this gelato place. The flavors we got were nocciola (hazelnut), caramel meringue (it had actual pieces of meringue in it!), banana (drool), and finally honey. Ugh America you need to step up your game! Don’t even get me started about the pizza and pasta!

Ok I lied, here’s some pizza porn for you 😉

Honestly though, eating in Italian restaurants now is going to make me slightly sad. And I honestly think I’m ruined for gelato. No gelato that I eat here is going to cut it. No regrets though. Although I do have a fairly funny story. Josh and I decided for whatever reason that we were going to try this highly recommended conveyer belt sushi restaurant while we were in Rome. Suffice it to say: EVEN THE SUSHI IN ROME WAS AMAZING!

I hope you enjoy the super creepy stalker picture Josh took of me while I was eating haha. Check out those chopsticks skills!

  2. So glad you had such an amazing time. When, years ago, we were in Rome, we also had a fantastic gelato experience at this huge place with, if memory serves me well, had a merry go round on the premises. Anyhow, it spoiled me for any USA based gelato except for the place in Laguna Beach

Tell me the day of your trip here to Los Angeles. We will pick you up at airport and so look forward to whatever time you can share with us.

    Love,

    Grandpa

  3. Looks and sounds like you had an incredible time! I’m going to Rome in December for the first time, I’d love to hear more about your trip, and any tips you have!

    • Hi Julia! First off, you’re going to love it, Rome is an amazing city even just walking around without any major plans is an awesome experience. You’ll definitely want to hit up most of the major tourist attractions–Josh and I had a great time at the Colosseum, Forum, Piazza Navona, and St. Peter’s Basilica. If you get the chance you should also try to visit Galleria Borghese, which I’ve heard is lovely (you do have to call ahead and make a reservation). In terms of food, there are some great restaurants in the both Trastevere and Testaccio, which are a little bit outside of Rome, but you should be able to get there by public transportation. Also the best gelato place we went to is called San Crispino’s: here’s the address: Via della Panetteria, 42, 00187 Roma, Italy–it’s right near Trevi Fountain. Hope that helps! If you have any more specific questions you can always shoot me an email: dormroombaking [at] gmail.com :).

      • Thanks so much for all the info! Sorry I haven’t seen this reply until now, (I didn’t get an email or anything). I’ll definitely look into that restaurant and the gelato place! Thanks again! 🙂
